This body of work aimed to create a series of scenarios using friends as ‘actors’ and sets or backdrops containing symbolic, metaphorical and fictional material. The idea was based on the idea of a journey where the protagonist enounters archetypes, such as that created by John Bunyan in his Pilgrim’s Progress. The paintings were accompanied by poems written in response to the scenarios depicted by poet Andy Philip. The exhibition also featured a set of small paintings called ‘Fragments’, which set out to explore a different kind of visual language for creating suggestive narratives, memories, and half-glimpsed thoughts.
